Events : Art show adds colour to N-Day joy

Kuala Lumpur, Sat. - Merdeka Day has become more colourful thanks to the Colourful Malaysia Art Exhibition which was launched today by Education Ministrys Parliamentary Secretary Datuk Mahadzir Mohd. Khir.

The exhibition, which is being held at the Sungei Wang Plaza until Aug 31, reflects the unique racial harmony and multicultural diversity of Malaysia.

Organised by The One Academy, the exhibition expresses national pride in our rich heritage of cultures, which can be seen through the various festivals, unique arts and crafts, dance forms and food.

The exhibits consist of original and digital print art works by the students and lecturers of the academy.

Proceeds from their sales will go to Yayasan Anak-anak Yatim Malaysia.

Held in conjunction with the exhibition was the Colourful Malaysia Scholarship Award presentation.

Winners were chosen from entries received in an art contest organized by the academy for students from the ages of 16 to 18.

Scholarships worth more than RM180,000 were given to winners to student at the academy.

Bagging the first prize of a RM45,000 scholarship was Karen Loh Cheng Leng of Sekolah Menengah Tsung Tsin, Sabah, whose entry portrayed the races in harmony.

Ng San Yuan, of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Gurun, Kedah, won the second prize of RM30,000.

The third prize of RM20,000 went to Ho Seng Hui of Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan Pei Hwa, Muar
