EIGHT WIN COVETED SCHOLARSHIP TO THE ONE ACADEMY
Prizes Include Trip To Disneyland And Scholarships Worth
RM135,000
Bandar Sunway, Dec 10 - After all the anticipation,
the verdict is finally out; eight category B participants
from secondary schools across the country has garnered
scholarships to The One Academy worth a total of RM135,000
at The New Media Award 2004.
After much deliberation, the judges picked the winners
of Category A (secondary students). Namely, Tan Zi Hao,
15, from SMK Seri Kembangan was chosen as the first
prize winner; Lai Wai Hou, 13, from Nan Hwa High School
walked away with the second prize and the third prize
went to Loi Pei Wen, 14, from SMJK Confucian.
"I was shocked and ecstatic. I just let my ideas flow
but never expected to win the top prize," said Tan,
whose winning artwork shown a humorous scenario of how
a household chaos was put to an immediate stop with
a telephone call from the mother.
Considerating that this year's theme was "hero of the
day", the judges, consisting senior representatives
from the organisers and the Multimedia Development Corporation
(MDC), commented that it was encouraging to see that
the participants were more imaginative, and able to
think out of the cliched idea of how a "hero" should
look like, while some even incorporated family values
and humour in their artworks.
As for Category B (open) the first prize went to William
Teow Soon Lee, 23; the second prize winner was Yuen
Keen Seng, 23; while Teoh Chee Chai, 31, walked away
with the third prize.
Together, the winners garnered, among others, a trip
ticket to Disneyland Paris and The One Academy scholarship
worth more than RM135,000.00 as well as Epson 'all-in-one'
products, trophies, certificates of excellence and souvenirs.
This year's New Media Award was an event organised by
The One Academy and The Star In.Tech in conjunction
with the release of Disney / Pixar's The Incredibles.
Since 1998, Disney movie distributor Buena Vista Columbia
TriStar has been collaborating with The One Academy
and The Star In.Tech to organise The New Media Award
in conjunction with Disney and Pixar's releases in Malaysia,
namely, A Bug's Life (1998), Toy Story 2 (1999), Dinosaur
(2000), Monsters, Inc. (2001), Lilo & Stitch (2002)
and Finding Nemo (2003).
Together with joint organiser Sin Chew Daily, supported
by the MDC and sponsored by Epson and Emirates Airline,
the contest aims to nurture and give due recognition
to creative youths of the country through scholarships
and prizes.
