International student support / services

Our International Student Office always make every effort to provide our international students with relevant support to help make their study in Malaysia comfortable.

Throughout your 3-years with us, you may approach our International Student Office Officer for support in any of the services that are made available to you. For other assistance, you are welcome to make a request.

We recommend for you to read more about Malaysia and understand our multi-cultural heritage before departing from your country. This will help you get around easily during your first few days in our country and also what to expect.

Student Pass / Visa

You should obtain a Student Pass Approval letter from the Malaysian Immigration Department prior to entering Malaysia. Students who enter the country without a Student Pass Approval will be liable for a  (Journey performed (JP) fees and processing fee) by the Immigration Department of Malaysia upon entering the country. (Must comply with conditions)

Our International Student Office will assist you in putting forth the student pass / visa. With this service, you would not need to be present during the application.

Procedures of obtaining a Student Pass
• Application will take approximately 4-6 weeks.
• You are required to submit your passport to the International Student Officer upon approval student pass in order to have the visa  for your passport. This procedure will take approximately 2-6 weeks.
• Our International Student Officer will inform you of the passport collection time.

Renewal of Student Visa
* Your student pass / visa is only valid for 1-year. You are required to renew it annually throughout your course of study.
* p/s: Subject to change by Authority.

Procedure for renewal of Student Visa
• You are required to submit your passport to our International student Office 2-MONTHS before the date of visa expiry.
• The renewal process will take approximately 3-6 weeks.
• You will borne for any overstay penalty / compound.
• Our International Student Officer will inform you of the passport collection time.

Airport Arrival Transportation

Once your Student Pass is approved, we will send you a copy of the approval letter with an Arrival Air Port Pickup Request Form.

You are required to complete the Arrival Air Port Pickup Request Form containing
• Arrival flight information
• Accommodation

and send / fax / email to us at least 3 weeks before date of arrival to

If you require airport pick-up service, you are required to inform us 3-weeks prior to arrival complete with full flight details. Airport pick-ups only apply for first arrivals at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport(KLIA) or Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT).

You are required to inform our International Student Officer of any changes to flight arrival information.

Accommodation

We are aware that accommodation is usually one of the first questions raised by many international students.

In order to make your study life with us comfortable and worry-free, we have carefully selected and furnished 2-accommodation units to provide you an ideal and conducive environment for learning.

The 2-accommodation units are equipped with a mini market and a laundrette for your convenience. There is also a cafeteria for your gastronomically affairs. All these are within the walking distance of the apartments.

There is a scheduled bus route just outside the hostel and the travelling distance from the male hostel to our academy is approximately 10 – 15km ride, female hostel approximately 100-200m with walking distance.

For enquiries just drop by Student Services Department for more information or you can download the application form to speed up your request when you see our friendly SSD officers.

Note:
• Each room is furnished with beds & mattresses, a study table & chairs,    cupboards, curtains, a set of dining table, television, a fridge and a gas    stove.

• Weekly housekeeping is available for all TOA hostels.

• Utility bills will be borne by the academy.

• You need to pay 2 months refundable deposit, 1⁄2 month utilities and 4    months rental in advance (non-refundable) in order to confirm your    accommodation.

Banking

You are required to open a bank account in any one of the local banks to assist you in managing your funds. Payment of fees may be made through this facility via telegraphic transfer.

Hospitalisation & Surgical Benefits Insurance

It is compulsory for all foreign students to subscribe to this hospitalisation and surgical insurance as they are living away from home. It will cost RM142.80 per year and it covers hospitalisation and surgical expenses up to RM25,000.

Benefits of this policy includes:
• ambulance services
• reimbursement of tuition fees
• medical evacuation expenses

Payment of this insurance policy is to be made together with the tuition fees and you are required to renew it annually.

You will be given an insurance policy card with an SOS phone number printed behind. By showing this card during admittance to hospital, the personnel will be responsible to call the SOS number and to verify the membership. You will be admitted into the hospital without the need for placements of deposit.

Foreign students are exempted from this insurance coverage only if they are able to prove that they are covered by a similar policy.

General Support and Help

The Student Services Department will provide an International Students Handbook during the Induction Programme.

This handbook which have similar information available under About Malaysia, serves to guide foreign students on adapting to life in Malaysia, and contains valuable information such as useful telephone numbers, safety & amenities information, travelling directions and much more.

Annual activities will also be held for students (e.g. English Speaking Campaigns, competitions and festivals). These have been popular with students who wish to improve communication and relations between faculty members and students.

Outdoor trips to main tourist attractions around the city are also organised to familiarise foreign students to the environment and location.

You are welcome to meet with any of our Student Services Officers for any enquiries or assistance in our effort to make their educational experience stay a memorable one.
